Les Ackermans ont été décris comme le groupe folk le plus sympathique de Dallas. Leur musique fermement enracinée au Texas varie les périodes et les genres allant de nombreuses chansons originales aux reprises de classique, tels que "somewhere over the rainbow" de Judy Garland et "Dallas" de Dave Gilmore.

Bob et Sally se produisent régulièrement dans la région de Dallas et dans des festivals à travers les Etats-Unis et l'Europe. Chaque été, ils font une tournée en France, en Allemagne, Irlande et en Suisse avec leur deux enfants globe-trotter, Sahra et Ramian.

Le musicien compositeur Josh Allan Friedman surnommait Bob Ackerman de colporteur de la country. A certain titre, il façonne sa voix de manière nasillarde, mais faisant penser à Jacque Brel ou même Charles Aznavour. (ndlr qui sont ses référence en français).

Parmi les grandes scènes sur lesquelles ils se sont produit on trouve le Montreux Jazz Festival en Suisse, le Fiddler's green Festival et la négociation pour la paix en Irlande du Nord, le "Texas House ", "le Rattlesnack Saloon", le "Oklaoma Saloon" et le "Baton Rouge Saloon" en Allemagne, "Le blue note Café" à Paris, "Le cowboy Dream " à Messery, "le Bluebird café" et "le Brocken Spoke Café" à Nashville, la fête américaine à Genève, les Fêtes de Genève, à Bernex en Fête, au Festival de Diablerets etc...

Dans leur ville d'origine de Dallas, ils ont joué, entre autre, le Noël aux chandelles dans Old city Park, au Deep Ellum Arts Festival, Y.O. Ranch Steackhouse et chanté l'hymne national au Cotton Bowl.

Ils ont sorti 6Cd : We've got it made(1996).Real live Texas(1999), Code of the West (2000),As Far As Can See(2004) ,Home and Away (2006) ""Jump in the River (2008). Ils ont aussi écrit et chanté la chanson theme de Lone StarRadio qui est retransmise continuellement dans les cyberespaces sur Broadcast.com.

Bob écrit la plupart des textes et joue de la guitare. Sally ajoute la basse, l'harmonica et les "elecrical Spurs" et les deux chantent.  La voix de Sally et Bob se mélange au gré des morceaux. Leur travail dégage une douce harmonie et souvent un humour très fin.

"Mon approche dans l'écriture des chansons est plus ou moins journalistique " dit Bob"  Je vois des choses et j'essaie de les retranscrire en chanson. Je ne fais pas beaucoup appel à mon imagination.

Bob et Sally se sont rencontrés la première fois au "Saloon on Greenville Avenue" pendant un show présenté par Bob. Ils se sont mariés plus tard à Amsterdam.
Après le mariage, ils ont voyagé à travers l'Europe pendant des mois avec guitare en bandoulière. Maintenant, ils parcourent l'Europe chaque été avec leurs enfants.
Ils ont commencé à se produire officiellement ensemble en 1992 , à peu près une année après la naissance de leur fille Sahra " On avait besoin de s'échapper de la maison " dit Sally " Ca a commencé comme une sortie en amoureux puis cela s'est transformé en notre carrière. Le fait d'avoir les mêmes intérêts et le même but aide notre relation. Nous partageons les succès et les peines, nous partageons la gloire et les critiques.
De nombreuse personnes ont chanté les chansons des Ackermans : Sara Hickmam, Robin Macy, Patty Lege, John Mc Culloch, Randy Hopper, Tracie Merchant et Michel J. Martin.

The Ackermans have been described as Dallas' most amiable folk-rock act. Their music, rooted firmly in Texas, spans eras and genres, ranging from a variety of original songs to covers like Guy Clark's "Texas Cookin'" and Jimmie Dale Gilmore's "Dallas."

Bob and Sally perform regularly in the Dallas area and at festivals all over the United States and Europe. Every summer, they tour France, Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland with their two globe-hopping children.

Musician/writer Josh Alan Friedman called Bob Ackerman "a country Cole Porter. He has a prolific catalog of originals, some of them sung with a twang, but somehow reminiscent of Jacques Brel or even Charles Aznavour."

Some of the major venues they've played include the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland; the Fiddler's Green Festival and the peace negotiations in Northern Ireland; the Texas House, Oklahoma Saloon, and Baton Rouge Saloon in Germany; the Blue Note Café in Paris; and the Bluebird Café and The Broken Spoke Café in Nashville.

In their hometown of Dallas, they've played the John A. Lomax Music Festival and Chuck Wagon Cookoff, Candlelight Christmas in Old City Park, the Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and sang the National Anthem at the Cotton Bowl.

Bob does most of the writing, plays guitar and, for rhythm, stomps on his grandmother's washboard. Sally adds bass, harmonica, and makes the spurs on her feet jingle in time. They both sing, with Sally's soaring voice complementing Bob's earthier sound. Their work features smooth harmonies and, often, a subtle sense of humor.

"My approach to songwriting is pretty much journalistic," Bob says. "I see stuff and try to write it into a song. I don't tax my imagination a lot." So, Bob does write about real life; he just twists it to make memorable songs.

Bob and Sally first met at an open mike show that Bob hosted at The Saloon on Greenville Avenue, and later married in Amsterdam. "Early on -- when we were first married -- we traveled around Europe for months at a time with our backpacks and guitars," Bob said. "In more recent times, we've been touring Europe every summer with our kids in rent-a-cars."

They began formally performing together about a year after their daughter was born, "We needed to get out of the house together," Sally said. "It started as our date night. It turned into our career. It helps our relationship to have the same interests and to be traveling down the same road. We share the successes and the heartbreaks. We share the glory and the blame."
